Companies in London and the south-east receive 75% of all private equity investment in the UK.

According to a study by Leeds University’s Credit Management Research Centre, £5.8bn of the nationwide annual total of £7.5bn private equity investment went to businesses in London, the south-east and the east of England, including Cambridge.

Companies based in the East Midlands or Yorkshire were half as likely to receive investment from venture capital, private equity firms, crowd funding platforms, angel investors and government bodies than their counterparts in the UK’s capital in 2017.

Scotland was the only region or nation that where companies were more likely to get funding from private equity industry or direct government funding than in London.
