Facebook to Release Its Own Exclusive News Shows

Facebook is getting into the news business by creating its own shows with CNN and Fox News, among others. – CNBC

Facebook will pay media companies to produce the shows, and some of them will run mid-roll ads, a.k.a. commercials, to help publishers (and Facebook) make some extra money. – Recode

Facebook User Data Sold to Manufacturers

Over the last decade, Facebook gave at least 60 major device manufacturers, including Apple, Amazon, BlackBerry, Microsoft and Samsung, unprecedented access to user data as part of a data-sharing partnership programme. – NYT

Moreover, Facebook gave some companies special access to additional data about users’ friends, including phone numbers and friend links, beyond May 2015. The whitelist deals were struck with companies including Royal Bank of Canada and Nissan Motor Co. – WSJ
