$1.3 billion

The two founders of WhatsApp are walking away from Facebook leaving about $1.3 billion on the table.

After a long dispute with Facebook over how to produce more revenue with ads and data, the messaging app’s creators Jan Koum and Brian Acton, true believers on user privacy issues, have decided to resign. Mr. Acton resigned last September, and Mr. Koum announced he would leave on April 30.

Facebook paid $21.94 billion for WhatsApp in 2014, five times more than for all other bigger deals with Oculus VR, Instagram, Microsoft apps and Onavo together.
