Gallup has found that only 10% of working people possess the talent to be a great manager.

In its “State of the American Manager Report”, Gallup defines a “manager” as someone who is responsible for leading a team toward common objectives.

Nevertheless, companies still use outdated notions of succession to put people in the managerial roles. Promotion decisions are often based on individuals’ past experience or tenure, or as a “reward” for their performance in a completely separate role.

As a result, managers are disengaged, which, according to Gallup, costs the U.S. economy $319 billion to $398 billion annually.
