About 25% of GDP in North Korea is spent on its military, compared with about 2.5% in South Korea and 2% in China.

The outcome of the historic peace talks between South Korea and North Korea, which took place on 27 April 2018, would have a profound economic impact on the North. Growing the economy would require redistributing the resources spent on the military to civilian use.
